Cape Town's Big Spenders About to Learn a Huge Rugby Lesson in Pretoria

It will be money vs brilliance as UCT faces TUKS in Pretoria.

The age old rivalry between the north and the south continues today at the FNB TUKS stadium from 18:30 this evening when The University of Pretoria hosts the University of Cape Town in the Varsity Cup rugby tournament final. For 80 minutes we can expect a few bruises as time will stand still in a RUGBY THAT ROCKS competition that has reached its much anticipated climax.

The favourites t o win the battle are without a doubt are the men from Cape Town, who have been in every final since the series kicked off three years ago. On the other hand the lads from Pretoria who qualified are in the final for first time should not be written off as tonight’s match is played on home soil.

If rugby’s greater history is anything to go by then tonight’s match is going to be a killer. Here are my reasons for this: If one walks around the streets of Pretoria they are bound to hear an urban legend explaining how blue stripes ended up on the Western Province rugby kit. UCT’s Jersey is identical to the parent’s. Apparently in the beginning of inter- provincial rugby the WP jersey was plain white, but because of the Blue Bulls whipping their behinds turned blue and resulted in the addition of blue stripes on the jersey. This is what every Pretorian will be hoping for tonight.

This is supposed to be a preview of tonight’s match and not a review of the great battles won by the mighty Blue Bulls from Pretoria against the fragile built wine-makers of the Cape. But what is there to write about except that Helen Zille won the 2009 provincial elections in Cape Town, which led to some big companies moving their headquaters there, which led to rugby benefiting through sponsors, which led to WP Rugby buying every brilliant player available on this planet. How else would they have managed to reach both the Super rugby and Currie-cup finals last year?

Despite this TUKS is on the other hand play traditional BLOU BUL rugby, a recipe that is almost impossible to stop, “MAAK HULLE VOOR MOEG EN VERSEKER HULLE IS OP DIE AGTER VOET, DANN STEUR DIE BAL WYD VIR DIE VINNIGE MANNE OM TE SKOR!!!!!” In simple english “HIT THEM WITH A FORCE UNKNOWN TO MANKIND, BEFORE MAKING THEM LOOK BAD WITH SIMPLE TRIES FROM THE BACKS.”

My preview in a nut shell…. Today is going to be the battle of the heavy spender, UCT, against the boys that plays rugby like it should be played, UP.

PS : Soos hulle se “MAAK DIE BULLE ALMAL BOKKE”
